Master 2024 Wrap

It was a great day for the 2024 Masters at Sorrento on Monday. Windy overcast conditions made it challenging for those in the water (and those putting up the tent) but proved a welcome relief for the beachies.

Cott’s 10 competitors took home 2 Gold and 4 Silver between them.

Drew Masters, who missed last year's competition, came out flying and took silver in the 55-59 age beach sprint, competing against top-shelf athletes. Shane Davies also picked up a very commendable 4th place, sustaining a muscle strain which sidelined him from the beach relay and beach flags. Drew was destined to take gold in the flags event until youthful exuberance got the better of him, and a break in the hands of the starter handed victory to his Mullaloo adversary, seeing him pocket a second silver for the day.

Earlier in the day, the Masterful Myles Kennington, who has been leading some of the most intense beach training drills that Cott Beachies had ever seen, took a well-deserved silver medal in the 50-54 2km run, with Messrs Hurt, Tenten, and Cowie also putting in solid performances in their age group.

It was left to Cott's Golden Boys, Ian “Vilko” Vilkinson and Stan Davies, to take the gold in the +70 Board Rescue with multiple reports suggesting that the duo was so far in front that second place was nowhere to be seen. Vilko then returned to the water to smash the field in the +70 surf race, adding a second gold medal to his haul whilst Stan picked up a silver medal in a competitive 70+ board race.
