Country Carnival Wrap
The scene was set for 2 big days of racing for Cott, Saturday started with the surf boats with an unforgiving shore dump making race starts very interesting and a lot of flat water and grunt work after that. After up and down results in the heats Cheeky Chicks and the Muppets finished in the B Final and took 2nd and 3rd respectful. Saturday was also the day for the “Sand People” with the temperature heating up the sand quickly these events where shifted to 4pm start with twilight finals. Cottesloe didn’t have a big showing of sand competitors but WOW what they did was exceptional! Will Everett, Joshua Howard & Annabelle Hurst with each of them earning 1st and racking up a total of 52 points between them, Cottesloe finished the first day in 4th place on 61 points.
Saturday highlight was the running of the Open Flags final with Will Everett & Joshua Howard pushing and shoving their way from a starting field of 24 competitors to finishing 2nd (Will) & 3rd (Josh) much to the delight of the Cottesloe supporters on the Bunbury surf club balcony bar.
Sunday brought a whole new list of Cott competitors ready to take it all on. Youth Arena dominated winning 7 races, 3 seconds and 2 thirds which included 1st in Youth Mixed Board Relay & 1st in Youth Mixed Cameron Relay. Piper Lloyd, Sienna Howard, Tara Kearns Flanagan, Luca Howard, Max Eldon and Sam Hicks with outstanding efforts and gritty races to their names. Over in the Seniors arena the competition was tough with our young guns in Will Everett, Flynn Czaplinski, Joshua Howard & Lachlan Bridgland taking on the Open Men and making them work just a little bit hard sitting hot on their tails. Fantastic to see these young fellas not backing down and encouraging for what they will do in the coming seasons. I do have to mention that we had a few masters strutting their stuff in competition Wayne Adams, Robert Czaplinski and Gerald Hurst showing us that age is no barrier to competition. We finished the carnival 5th overall and left Bunbury beach feeling tired but completely satisfied with what we achieved as a club both competitors and supporters.
