Kicking Off In October
Well October certainly kicked off our surf sports season with 4 fantastic carnivals.
Round 1 Iron Series, Coogee Boat Carnival, Endurance Championships and our very own Cottesloe Beach Carnival, over these carnivals the black & gold cap was seen in action 50 times with some outstanding efforts by our younger competitors right through to our senior competitors.
Carnival RESULTS HERE
The highlight of the month was the Senior Beach Carnival Hosted at Cottesloe, we have been working in the off season alongside other clubs to help improve the competition amongst the beach fraternity. The WA Beach Panel was formed and with the backing of SLSWA we set out to building a mixture of stand alone beach carnivals with existing senior carnivals. An opportunity arose for us (Cottesloe) to host one of these events and we grabbed it willingly knowing it has been a dry spell for senior carnivals at Cott and how awesome would it be for our competitors to compete on their own turf.
The week leading into the carnival buried Cott beach in a mountain of seaweed! Many suggested we should cancel but we wouldn’t hear of it! The Sunday morning (Carnival Day) setup seen a beach well under prepared for a flat sprint track and flag pit but the true spirit of the club came out in forces, the number of members who came out to help rake, sweep, kick over and shovel sand flat and seaweed gone was overwhelming. We thank you greatly for your efforts to make our beach carnival possible!! 😍😍
Once the setup was done it was showtime for Chief referees Gail Burling & Adam Fortey. With 70 strong competitors entered it was bound to be a fantastic day of racing! Unexpected on the day we saw an array of officials from other clubs dressed in their gear and ready to lend a hand, we were very greatful for their presents as we were of our very own officials in Bruce Simpson and Ian Vilkson in lending their official eye but the officials list didn’t stop there, thank you to all the members who lent a hand ✋
Thank you to Gail & Adam for making the carnival the swift running carnival that it was, done and dusted in just over 2 hours. Your enthusiasm, knowledge and experience made the carnival the success that it was.
Cottesloe competitors did us all proud with great competitive attitude, mateship, respect, enthusiasm, endeavour and fun. We had some fantastic results, our very own Beach Captain Alicia Ward 1st U19 & Open Beach Flags, 2nd U19 Sprints
Will Everett 3rd Open 2km, 3rd U19 Flags, 4th Open Flags
Nicholas Ferguson 2nd Open 2km
Tom Clements 1st U14 Sprints & U14 Flags
Joshua Clements 1st U14 2km Run, 2nd U14 Sprints, 3rd U14 Flags
Emma Atwell 1st U14 Sprints, 2nd U14 Flags
Luca Howard 2nd U14 2km Run
Ashley Atwell 3rd U17 Sprints
Gethin Dobbs Evans 3rd U15 Sprint
What a day of racing! And at the end of it we all enjoyed a tasty sausage sizzle cooked up by our team on the bbq! Thank you to all who made this beach carnival possible without your help we never could of made it as successful as it was.
We Love this Club!!!
