Aussies 2016

The two days of Masters competition provided great  entertainment, good results and camaraderie which saw swim, beach, board, boat and ski events in  warm weather conditions with a 1 -2m swell, a number of rips and troughs along the Sunshine Coast.

Lisa Eldon Aussies campaign progressed well, 6th in the surf race and 8th in the board race until it was cruelled by a calf injury. As always Lisa was smiling and happy soon afterwards.

Paula Redbond was competitive in the surf race (8th), which a keen observer noted was akin to a beach run/wade with ‘a bit of a swim’ in the middle. Post the event Paula sought out and secured the beach running expertise of Stuart ‘the flash’ Cowie for her 2017 campaign. Other results for Paula included 8th in the board and a very competitive 4th in the tube race.

The men were well led by Rob Slattery with his gold, gold, gold in the tube race and silver in the single ski race. Congratulations to Slats on these results in what were interesting conditions.

Steppie had a good swim in the surf race. Unfortunately he was forced to withdraw from the Tube Race due to being unable to spot the cans, which is important if you want to finish a race.

Eldo had a good carnival finishing 7th in the blue ribbon ironman, Stan as always performed at a high level finishing 4th in the single ski, and Jarrad Davies finished 4th in the board riding final.

The Harmony boys had three good rows in our shiny new boat which arrived, was quickly scrutineered, then christened with some wise words from Glen Lane  before its first row who performed very well with a 3rd, 2nd and 3rd in its three maiden events.

The flash ran in a very competitive 2km race, was leading at  the first turn and held on to finish  10th in a large field. Stuart had his own fan club, with Sam at the start line urging him to push harder and Marg seen  leaving her post and running onto the track to cheer Stuart on. He also competed in the sprints later in the day.

The team events on Tuesday were interesting with Stan and Slats finishing 6th in the double ski.

Eldo, Slats and  Stan performed very well  in the ski (6th) and taplin relays. They were there abouts in each race, but unfortunately in the ski relay, Slats was caught inside on a big set and  Eldo was cleaned up and received minor craft damage from another competitor. In the taplin relay the wave conditions saw them fall back several places after being clear leaders in the swim leg.

Tuesday finished with a team BBQ at the Maroochy Sands which was enjoyed by all.
